Lancaster – Firefighters from across Lancaster and the surrounding communities came out to partake in the “Hero’s Chili Cook off” and annual fire truck parade Saturday.
At Noon, the day kicked off with Winterfest’s first chili cook off. Organizers were expecting a good number of chili chefs, but, for reason or another, some dropped out at the last minute.
Although the turn out was low for the competition, Bill Huff from Lancaster Ladder 4 bought his “A” game. “It’s a little recipe I put together, it’s been around and everyone says it’s pretty good, so I figured I’d try it.”
Jeff Moore from Protective Hose and his chili associates decorated their booth with Christmas lights and a giant Santa Clause on their roof. They hope next year, more area fire companies will decide to take part. “Everybody has their own recipe. It would be interesting to see everyone’s take on their chili recipe. It’s more fun if everyone takes part in it.” View pictures from the chili cook off in the Erie County Fire Blotter gallery>>>
Fast forward six hours, the flashing lights lit up the night and sirens drowned out the Christmas music that is piped in throughout the Village’s business district. The annual fire truck parade made its way down Central Avenue. Over fifty decorated fire trucks participated. View exclusive video of the parade here>>>
Christmasville in the Village of Lancaster runs through January 4th.
